How to brew it
  • 212°F / 100°C
  • Steep 5–7 minutes COVERED
  • Use 1–2 tsp per 8oz
  • Covering traps the volatile oils that carry most of the flavour

Roasted: treat like coffee — 212°F / 100°C, steep or simmer 10–15 minutes. Raw root: 212°F / 100°C, simmer 15–20 minutes for full extraction — Use 1–2 tsp per 8oz — Add honey or milk as you would coffee

Beyond the cup

The liver support herb. Dandelion root has been used for centuries to support healthy digestion and bile flow — the bitter compounds stimulate your digestive system the way a good espresso does, but without the caffeine. Earthy and roasted-tasting. For best results, simmer (don't just steep) 2 tsp in water for 15–20 minutes — the longer brew extracts more of the good stuff, including prebiotic fibre. Not for use if you have bile duct obstruction or gallbladder issues.

Good for

When you need a refresh

  • Traditionally used in herbal medicine as a digestive tonic and to help stimulate the appetite
  • Traditionally used as a diuretic
  • Roasted, rich and coffee-like, with no caffeine at all
  • The evening cup for people who miss the taste of coffee
What the research looked at

Traditionally used in Herbal Medicine as a choleretic, to help increase bile flow, and as a bitter digestive.
Rich in prebiotic inulin fibre — 12 to 40 per cent of the root.
Roasted, it is an excellent caffeine-free coffee substitute, and that is what most people actually want it for.
Earthy, dark and genuinely bitter. European herbalists have always used the root differently from the leaf.

These teas are foods, sold as such. Nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

What it goes with

The classic digestive support trio: dandelion root for bile flow, our Ginger Ground for motility, and Fennel Seeds to keep things comfortable. Cinnamon Ground adds blood sugar support and makes the earthy flavour more approachable.

Always handy

I use dillweed often. This dill is fresh and has a nice aroma. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and on fish. Good stuff.
