What’s in itMarshmallow Root (Althaea officinalis)
How to brew it
  • 212°F / 100°C
  • Steep 5–7 minutes COVERED
  • Use 1–2 tsp per 8oz
  • Covering traps the volatile oils that carry most of the flavour

Cold infusion OR hot steep — Cold: soak 1–2 tsp in room temperature water for 4+ hours (extracts maximum mucilage). Hot: 212°F / 100°C, steep 10–15 minutes — Use 1–2 tsp per 8oz — Viscous and soothing

Beyond the cup

The soothing coat. Marshmallow root works differently from other throat herbs — it physically coats and protects irritated tissue with a slippery compound called mucilage. Traditionally used for sore throat, dry cough, and digestive irritation. Here's the trick: for maximum soothing power, try a cold infusion — steep 2 tsp in room-temperature water for 4–8 hours. The thick, silky liquid is the good stuff. Space ½ hour from other supplements or medications.

What it goes with

For a sore-throat rescue kit, pair with our Ginger Ground for warming anti-inflammatory support and Thyme for its natural antimicrobial properties. Marshmallow coats while ginger and thyme fight — a combination herbalists have relied on for centuries.

Also in these blends

On its own, this is the straight thing. It also goes into these blends, each made for a different evening. Read about Marshmallow Root →

Always handy

I use dillweed often. This dill is fresh and has a nice aroma. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and on fish. Good stuff.
