What’s in itginger pieces, hibiscus, lemon, lemongrass, licorice root, black peppercorns
How to brew it
  • 212°F / 100°C
  • Steep 5–7 minutes COVERED
  • Use 1–2 tsp per 8oz
  • Covering traps the volatile oils that carry most of the flavour

Beyond the cup

The after-meal rescue. Ginger drives digestion forward while lemongrass calms the cramping — two approaches to bloating in one cup. Traditionally used for sluggish digestion, post-meal heaviness, and occasional nausea. The black pepper in the blend boosts absorption of everything else. Best after a heavy meal, or anytime your stomach needs a reset.

    Ginger

    Zingiber officinale

The universal connector — ginger appears in more products than any other ingredient in the collection. The dried root is chemically distinct from fresh ginger: drying converts gingerols to shogaols, which are about twice as pungent, and that is why dried ginger tastes deeper and...

Pungent, warm, slightly sweet, citrusy (fresh); warm, mellow, deep (dried)

    Hibiscus

    Hibiscus sabdariffa

The tart red one, and the ingredient whose colour is the point: those anthocyanins make a cup that is genuinely ruby, not brown. Hibiscus has been studied more than almost any other herbal infusion, and unusually the studies used the tea itself rather than an...

    Tart, cranberry-like, fruity, deeply colored

    Licorice Root

    Glycyrrhiza glabra

Naturally about fifty times sweeter than sugar, licorice root is the harmoniser — it makes other herbs taste better while adding a deep, warm, anise-like sweetness of its own. It is one of the most used herbs in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. It...

    Lemongrass

    Cymbopogon citratus

A tropical grass with bright citrus flavor that hides genuine pharmacological activity. Citral — lemongrass's primary compound — relaxes smooth muscle through calcium channel antagonism, addressing the spastic component of digestive discomfort. The surprise: the tea's real bioactives are water-soluble polyphenols (caffeic acid at 20.81...

    Black Pepper

    Piper nigrum

The dried unripe berry of a climbing vine — the mill on every table, and the most travelled object in any kitchen. Black, white and green pepper are all the same berry, picked at different moments and treated differently: black is picked unripe and dried...

Warm, woody, resinous and sharp; the bite is piperine, roughly a hundredth as potent as capsaicin

  • Fruit · Caffeine-free

    Lemon

    Citrus × limon

Dried lemon — the fruit, the powder and the dried juice, as distinct from the dried peel sold separately as a spice. The difference is real: peel is aroma with no acid, while dried lemon and lemon powder bring the sourness too, which is what...

Sharp, clean sourness with bright citrus aroma; the acid is what distinguishes it from lemon peel

Good for

When your stomach's off

  • Ginger, traditionally used in herbal medicine to help relieve nausea and digestive discomfort
  • Black pepper and lemon, in the Ayurvedic tradition of a warming digestive after a meal
  • Hot, sharp and naturally caffeine-free — works iced too
  • The cup after a heavy dinner

These teas are foods, sold as such. Nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

What it goes with

Build the digestive triple threat. Add a few of our Fennel Seeds to the steep — fennel relaxes the gut through a different pathway than lemongrass, and three-way digestive support beats two. Our Cardamom Ground is the traditional Ayurvedic companion for ginger in digestive formulas.

Always handy

I use dillweed often. This dill is fresh and has a nice aroma. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and on fish. Good stuff.
