Beyond the cup

The tension headache formula. Willow bark — the original aspirin — combines with spearmint, lavender, and passionflower to address headaches from multiple angles: the pain, the tension, and the stress underneath. Not a quick fix like a pill, but a whole-system approach. Traditionally used for tension headaches, stress headaches, and the kind of head pressure that comes from carrying everything on your shoulders. Steep 10–15 minutes covered for maximum willow bark extraction.

What’s in it

Every herb in the blend, and where to read about it on its own.

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Passionflower

    Passiflora incarnata

The fast-acting calming herb. Unlike valerian (which needs 2–4 weeks to build), passionflower works from the first cup — it increases synaptic GABA concentration through reuptake inhibition and contributes its own endogenous GABA. Critically, passionflower tea was tested directly in an RCT and demonstrated significant...

    Rose Petals

    Rosa gallica

The honest assessment: rose petal tea's primary value is cultural, sensory, and ritualistic rather than pharmacological. Essential oil content in petals is vanishingly small (4,000 kg of flowers yields 1 kg of oil), so virtually all volatile terpenoids are lost in tea preparation. What the...

    Spearmint

    Mentha spicata

Peppermint's gentler parent. Where peppermint delivers a sharp menthol punch, spearmint leads with carvone — a softer, sweeter, rounder mint. It is the everyday mint: easy, approachable, and the one to reach for if peppermint is too cold or too strong. It is also the...

    Lavender

    Lavandula angustifolia

Lavender's linalool is an extraordinarily potent GABA modulator — at IC50 of ~37 nM in synaptosomes, it's comparable to pharmaceutical calcium channel blockers. Standardized lavender oil capsules demonstrated anxiolytic efficacy equivalent to paroxetine (an SSRI) and lorazepam (a benzodiazepine) in clinical trials. The catch for...

    Nettle

    Urtica dioica

The nutritive powerhouse that stings you on the way in and nourishes you once it's in the cup. Nettle leaf is one of the most mineral-dense herbal teas available — rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, and silica. Its quercetin content provides mast-cell stabilizing activity (the...

    Lemon Verbena

    Aloysia citriodora

The most intensely lemon-scented herb that exists — its citral content runs higher even than lemongrass. A South American plant brought to Europe by Spanish explorers, where it became a beloved garden herb and an evening tisane. Recent research is interesting: a 2019 trial reported...

    Willow Bark

    Salix alba

Nature's original aspirin — willow bark contains salicin, which the body converts to salicylic acid (the precursor of aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid). Bayer synthesized aspirin from salicylic acid in 1897, but humans had been using willow bark for pain relief for at least 3,500 years before that....

    Lemongrass

    Cymbopogon citratus

A tropical grass with bright citrus flavor that hides genuine pharmacological activity. Citral — lemongrass's primary compound — relaxes smooth muscle through calcium channel antagonism, addressing the spastic component of digestive discomfort. The surprise: the tea's real bioactives are water-soluble polyphenols (caffeic acid at 20.81...

    Rooibos

    Aspalathus linearis

Not tea. Rooibos is a needle-leaved shrub of the pea family that grows in one mountain range in the Western Cape and nowhere else, and since 2021 the name has been legally reserved for it. It is the base of thirty-three products here for one...

Honey, dried fruit and vanilla with a little wood; smooth, naturally sweet, never bitter. Green rooibos is malty and slightly grassy

  • Flower · Caffeine-free

    Blue Mallow

    Malva sylvestris

Reddish-purple petals with dark stripes that do something no other ingredient in this shop does: brewed on their own they give a blue-violet cup, and the colour shifts when you add something acid. That is not a trick — the flowers' pigment is pH-sensitive enough...

Very mild and faintly sweet, with a soft, slightly slippery body from the plant's mucilage

  • Fruit · Caffeine-free

    Plum

    Prunus spp.

Deep, winey and dark, with a tartness in the skin that a peach does not have. Three products carry it, as pieces or petals. Plums are likely to have been one of the first fruits domesticated by humans, which puts them alongside the fig and...

Good for

When you're achy

  • Feverfew, traditionally used in herbal medicine to help relieve headache
  • Peppermint and lavender, traditionally used to help relieve tension and nervousness
  • Cool, green and naturally caffeine-free

These teas are foods, sold as such. Nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

What it goes with

Boost the anti-inflammatory side. Our Turmeric Ground adds curcumin's powerful inflammation pathway — and a pinch of our Black Pepper Ground makes it absorb dramatically better. Our Ginger Ground stacks a third anti-inflammatory mechanism on top.

Always handy

I use dillweed often. This dill is fresh and has a nice aroma. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and on fish. Good stuff.
