What’s in itginger root, peppermint, tulsi, licorice root, cinnamon, cardamom, hibiscus, rosehips, astragalus
How to brew it
  • 212°F / 100°C
  • Steep 5–7 minutes COVERED
  • Use 1–2 tsp per 8oz
  • Covering traps the volatile oils that carry most of the flavour

Beyond the cup

The daily immune ritual for cold season. Nine herbs working different angles — ginger for warmth, tulsi for stress resilience, astragalus for the long game. Hibiscus and rosehips bring antioxidants, cardamom opens the airways. Brew 1–2 tsp, steep 8–10 minutes covered. Best as a daily habit through fall and winter — let the layers build over time. Note: contains licorice root — check with your doctor if you have high blood pressure.

What’s in it

Every herb in the blend, and where to read about it on its own.

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Ginger

    Zingiber officinale

The universal connector — ginger appears in more products than any other ingredient in the collection. The dried root is chemically distinct from fresh ginger: drying converts gingerols to shogaols, which are about twice as pungent, and that is why dried ginger tastes deeper and...

Pungent, warm, slightly sweet, citrusy (fresh); warm, mellow, deep (dried)

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Hibiscus

    Hibiscus sabdariffa

The tart red one, and the ingredient whose colour is the point: those anthocyanins make a cup that is genuinely ruby, not brown. Hibiscus has been studied more than almost any other herbal infusion, and unusually the studies used the tea itself rather than an...

    Tart, cranberry-like, fruity, deeply colored

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Licorice Root

    Glycyrrhiza glabra

Naturally about fifty times sweeter than sugar, licorice root is the harmoniser — it makes other herbs taste better while adding a deep, warm, anise-like sweetness of its own. It is one of the most used herbs in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. It...

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Peppermint

    Mentha x piperita

A natural hybrid of watermint and spearmint that humans have cultivated for centuries. Peppermint's menthol activates TRPM8 cold receptors, creating the sensation of cooling without changing actual temperature. Its rosmarinic acid content is the real pharmacological star in tea — highly water-soluble with genuine anti-inflammatory...

Cool, refreshing, sharp menthol bite, slightly sweet

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Rosehips

    Rosa canina

The fruit of the wild rose, containing 20 to 40 times more vitamin C than oranges in its fresh form. Here's the catch: most of that vitamin C degrades during drying and steeping. What the tea actually delivers is proanthocyanidins — water-extractable tannin antioxidants —...

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Tulsi (Holy Basil)

    Ocimum tenuiflorum

Sacred in Hinduism and central to Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years, tulsi is classified as a rasayana — an herb that nourishes the whole person. Modern research identifies it as a genuine adaptogen: multiple human trials show significant reductions in stress, anxiety, and fatigue...

Peppery, clove-like, slightly sweet, aromatic, complex

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Astragalus

    Astragalus membranaceus

The foundational Qi tonic of Traditional Chinese Medicine — astragalus (Huang Qi) has been used for over 2,000 years to strengthen the body's defensive energy. Modern research has identified polysaccharides and saponins (astragalosides) as the primary bioactive compounds, with evidence for immunomodulation, anti-fatigue effects, and...

Mildly sweet, earthy, slightly woody — pleasant and unobtrusive

  • Spice · Caffeine-free

    Cinnamon

Cinnamomum verum, C. burmannii, C. loureiroi

The inner bark of a laurel tree, peeled, dried and curled into quills. Three different trees are sold under the one name, and the shop carries all three: Ceylon (Cinnamomum verum), the soft, papery, floral one from Sri Lanka; Korintje (C. burmannii) from the Kerinci...

Sweet, woody, warm — Ceylon floral and citrusy, Korintje smooth and familiar, Saigon bold and fiery-sweet

  • Spice · Caffeine-free

    Cardamom

    Elettaria cardamomum

Green pods holding small black seeds, from a ginger-family plant of the Western Ghats — floral, resinous and eucalyptus-cool, quite unlike anything else in the cupboard. It is the third most expensive spice in the world after saffron and vanilla, which is why it is...

Floral, resinous, eucalyptus-cool and sweet-warm; the main volatiles are terpinyl acetate and eucalyptol

Good for

For keeping well

  • Echinacea, elderberry and ginger — the herbs traditionally taken through the cold months
  • Traditionally used in herbal medicine to help relieve the symptoms of colds
  • Warming, with a gentle heat from the ginger; naturally caffeine-free
  • The daily cup from October to March

These teas are foods, sold as such. Nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

What it goes with

The power move: add our Turmeric Ground and a pinch of Black Pepper Ground to this cup. The turmeric stacks with the ginger for triple anti-inflammatory coverage, and the black pepper boosts absorption of everything by up to 20×. Three compounds, three pathways, one cup.

Always handy

I use dillweed often. This dill is fresh and has a nice aroma. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and on fish. Good stuff.
