Beyond the cup

The evening wind-down blend — calming without knocking you out. Chamomile, passionflower, and linden work three different pathways to quiet the noise while lemon balm and lemon verbena lift the mood. Anise settles the stress-stomach. This is the daily stress manager, not a sleep aid — perfect for the gap between dinner and bedtime. Naturally sweet from the rooibos and cinnamon. Steep 7–10 minutes covered.

What’s in it

Every herb in the blend, and where to read about it on its own.

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Chamomile

    Matricaria chamomilla

The world's most beloved bedtime tea and one of the oldest herbal remedies in continuous use. Ancient Egyptians dedicated it to the sun god Ra. Its gentle, apple-like flavor hides a surprisingly specific mechanism: apigenin binds GABA-A benzodiazepine receptors, creating mild anxiolytic effects supported by...

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Orange Peel

    Citrus sinensis

Previously dismissed as 'just citrus,' orange peel contains hesperidin — a flavanone with genuine anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular evidence — plus polymethoxyflavones that show remarkable metabolic activity in preclinical studies. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, aged tangerine peel (chen pi) is one of the most prescribed herbs....

    Bright, citrusy, slightly bitter, aromatic

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Passionflower

    Passiflora incarnata

The fast-acting calming herb. Unlike valerian (which needs 2–4 weeks to build), passionflower works from the first cup — it increases synaptic GABA concentration through reuptake inhibition and contributes its own endogenous GABA. Critically, passionflower tea was tested directly in an RCT and demonstrated significant...

Mild, slightly grassy, earthy, gentle — blends easily with other herbs

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Lemon Balm

    Melissa officinalis

The herb with the highest rosmarinic acid concentration among all Lamiaceae — and rosmarinic acid extracts brilliantly into water. This means lemon balm tea delivers genuinely pharmacological doses of a compound that inhibits GABA-transaminase (prolonging calming GABA activity) and inhibits acetylcholinesterase (supporting cognitive function). It's...

Bright lemon, gentle, slightly minty, refreshing, light

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Anise

    Pimpinella anisum

Not to be confused with star anise (a different plant entirely), anise seed delivers trans-anethole — a potent smooth muscle relaxant that European medicine has used for digestive complaints since ancient Greece. Commission E approved it for dyspeptic complaints and upper respiratory catarrh. Anise tea...

    Sweet, licorice-like, warm, aromatic

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Lemon Verbena

    Aloysia citriodora

The most intensely lemon-scented herb that exists — its citral content runs higher even than lemongrass. A South American plant brought to Europe by Spanish explorers, where it became a beloved garden herb and an evening tisane. Recent research is interesting: a 2019 trial reported...

Intensely lemony, clean, bright, sweet-citrus, refreshing

  • Herb · Caffeine-free

    Linden Flowers

    Tilia europaea

The anxiolytic flower with preclinical evidence but zero human clinical trials. Linden's tiliroside and quercetin glycosides provide anxiolytic effects through GABA-A modulation — dose-dependent effects comparable to diazepam in mice. In German tradition, 'Lindenblutentee' (linden blossom tea) is one of the most popular calming tisanes....

Honey-sweet, floral, mild, delicate, slightly mucilaginous

    Learn more

  • Spice · Caffeine-free

    Cinnamon

Cinnamomum verum, C. burmannii, C. loureiroi

The inner bark of a laurel tree, peeled, dried and curled into quills. Three different trees are sold under the one name, and the shop carries all three: Ceylon (Cinnamomum verum), the soft, papery, floral one from Sri Lanka; Korintje (C. burmannii) from the Kerinci...

Sweet, woody, warm — Ceylon floral and citrusy, Korintje smooth and familiar, Saigon bold and fiery-sweet

Learn more Sold on its own

  • Tea · Caffeine-free

    Rooibos

    Aspalathus linearis

Not tea. Rooibos is a needle-leaved shrub of the pea family that grows in one mountain range in the Western Cape and nowhere else, and since 2021 the name has been legally reserved for it. It is the base of thirty-three products here for one...

Honey, dried fruit and vanilla with a little wood; smooth, naturally sweet, never bitter. Green rooibos is malty and slightly grassy

Learn more Sold on its own

  • Fruit · Caffeine-free

    Orange

    Citrus x sinensis

Dried orange — pieces, and sometimes the blossom — as distinct from the dried peel sold as a spice. In a tea blend orange does something peel alone cannot: the fruit brings sweetness and body where the peel brings only the bright bitter oil. Eleven...

Sweet, round citrus with a little bitterness behind it; brighter and less sharp than lemon

Good for

When you can't calm down

  • Lemon balm and passionflower, traditionally used in herbal medicine to help relieve nervousness
  • Chamomile, traditionally used to help relieve restlessness
  • Gentle, green and naturally caffeine-free
  • The cup for right now, not later

These teas are foods, sold as such. Nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

What it goes with

Deepen the calm. Our Lavender Flower adds physical relaxation that the blend's mind-focused herbs don't cover — the combination bridges mental and body stress. A Vanilla Bean steeped alongside brings comfort-cup vibes and a touch of extra anxiety relief.

Always handy

I use dillweed often. This dill is fresh and has a nice aroma. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and on fish. Good stuff.
